Classic Cocktails

I nutiden er betegnelsen klassisk ikke længere bundet til antikken, men fremdeles til opfattelsen af, at et værk kan besidde en gyldighed, der bevarer dets værdi for eftertiden. Hvis man relaterer begrebet klassisk til cocktails betyder det, at en klassisk cocktail er en drink lavet efter ældre opskrift/principper, der stadig er interesse for at drikke. Bl.a. IBA har listet en række cocktails, som opfattes som klassiske.

Det der nok har stået fadder til cocktails er punches serveret i bowler, som første gang er beskrevet i 1690’erne. Først langt senere kom fizzes, slings, egg nogs, flips og toddies, som blev serveret i mindre glas. De første cocktails, der ikke var punch baserede blev ofte fremstillet med et medicinsk mål for øje.
